Everyone is familiar with the top British writers of police procedurals (Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes, Ian Rankin, &c).  But below the “bestsellers” are the “midlist” authors, those who over the years sell decent but not spectacular numbers, and often quickly go out of fashion.  Below are a few such writers.
