Review: A Whisper to the Living

Both good and bad news are connected with this latest Inspector Rosnikov novel.  One piece of good news is that Rosnikov and his entire team are back working the Moscow beat.  The drill is as before they went on the road.  A number of tricky cases are simultaneously investigated by Rosnikov's people; the format is of course based on the Russian detective's favourite writer, Ed McBain and the 87th precinct.  Another piece of good news is that the cases are resolved with the same panache and ingenuity as before.  This is a worthy entry in the series.  Now for the bad news: The author died shortly after completing this book, and there will be no more.  We must be grateful for what we have received.
