Review: Ghouls Gone Wild by Victoria Laurie

I love Victoria Laurie's 'Abbie Cooper, Psychic Eye' series and I really liked the character of M.J. Holliday. Needless to say, I was happy when she got her own series and eagerly dove in. GHOULS GONE WILD is 'M.J. Holliday, Ghost Hunter' #4 and I couldn't put it down once I started it. Part of the reason was that I thought there were genuinely scary parts, so I needed to keep reading to find out what happened. I think this book is darker than the previous ones in the series. M.J., her business partner Gilley, and her new psychic associate Heath have headed to Scotland to film a new television series. When they find more than just ghosts in a cavern, it takes all of their collective powers to keep everything under control.

Victoria Laurie is really good at creating tension in the relationships of her main characters. I'll be honest, I'm a happily ever after kind of a gal, but it does add a little bit of suspense to not just the book but the series as a whole. It's pretty obvious that there is increasing sexual tension between M.J. and Heath, so it will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

I think my preference will always be the Psychic Eye series (book #8 is coming out in July, and still blessedly in mass market), but I look forward to seeing what happens to M.J and Heath and their eccentric associates (Ghost Hunter #5 comes out January 2011).

And don't forget, Victoria Laurie has a great website and she even does phone psychic readings in real life. I'm really tempted...
