I never thought I would read a mystery that was over 600 pages, but I did with The Historian. It begins with a professor going missing and a young woman finding an ancient book and letters. Then the fun begins as one travels back and forth in history to the truth about Vlad the Impaler and Dracula. The story takes you to Istanbul, Romania and Bulgaria, and other places. The characters are rich and colorful; the sense of time and place are wonderful. I flew through the pages and didn't notice how long the book was. I was a bit disappointed in the ending but I will leave that up to you to decide. I have no hesitation recommending this book. I couldn't put it down.
