Terry Pratchett Nights

by Whodunit

On March 13 2014, Whodunit? hosted an evening devoted to Terry Pratchett, part of our continuing effort to provide our customers with collective reading experiences of less traditional authors.  We had earlier done an Arthur Ransome “Swallows and Amazons” evening. For those of you who don’t recognize the name of Terry Pratchett, he is the UK’s best-selling author, writing over the years nearly fifty fantasy novels. One of his many series features a big-city police force (the Guards) in his fictional city of Ankh Morpork –a mix of 19th-century problems and fourteenth-century technology, plus magic) and he thus belongs naturally on the shelves in our bookstore. A number of those who came on 13 March read favourite passages from Pratchett’s work, including several from the Guards series. A good time was had by all. We will celebrate Pratchett’s birthday on 28 April with another evening of readings and discussion. Do plan to join us, and bring your favourite Pratchett if you would like to participate actively in the festivities. Also, if you have a favourite author that you think deserves an evening in the future, do let us know.
